I am an unrelenting child of the 90s, and I would say that even now I buy as many 90s albums as I do new albums. Just last month I [retrospectively, stupidly] bought all the Korn albums just because I wanted to hear “Freak on a Leash” a few more times.

One of my passions has been getting into bands well after they’ve ended their careers. I always loved Reel Big Fish in the 90s and that has continued. Someday listen to Turn the Radio Off with me and you will find that not only do I know every word, but also every bass-line and horn solo. Around the same time, BASEketball (featuring RBF in their only silver screen appearance) came out and I bought the soundtrack, which was out on Mojo Records. I delved into other Mojo bands, including Goldfinger, the Ernies and Pilfers. A few years ago I completed the Ernies trifecta by finding their self-produced first album and today I finally got my hands on a copy of the Pilfers first album. I feel special because only 20,000 copies were ever made and it was a self-promoted album.

Of course it’s great, and I am so sad that Ska is effectively dead. BUT WAIT! The Pilfers have reunited, at least temporarily and are coming to The Middle East on November 22. I’ve already got my ticket and you’d better get yours because I’d rather not be the only one there. I would definitely recommend checking them out!

Goldfinger just released a new album, and Reel Big Fish is coming to the Palladium in January. Now, let’s get the Ernies back together and my life will be complete!

I don’t really consider myself a true music connoisseur, but I do have a lot of CDs.
